There are plenty of ways to make money on the internet and Monero XMR cryptocurrency mining is among the best ways to make money online. Monero can be mined on a variety of equipment like smartphones, computer GPU cards, and CPUs. In this guide, you will learn how to install and configure a Linux server for mining Monero android users inclusive.

Monero (XMR) is a decentralized open-source cryptocurrency with a focus on anonymity that was created in 2014. It achieves anonymity and fungibility by combining a public distributed ledger with privacy-enhancing technologies that disguise transactions. accounts selling monero, transaction amounts, account balances, and transaction history are all invisible to observers.

What you need to mine Monero (XMR)

  1. VPS Linux Server
  1. A Mining Pool
  1. A Monero (XMR) wallet
  1. Mingling software
  1. Linux Commands
Many shared CPU server providers do not allow mining cryptocurrencies on their servers due to high CPU usage. Therefore, mining Monero may result in banning your account. We are not responsible for any damage caused since this post is for educational purposes only.

The Linux Server

This is the major requirement for us to mine Monero. There are many Linux server providers on the internet, some of which provide free trials before you purchase any Linux server. These include DigitalOcean(free $100)Linode(free $100), and Vultr(free $100). However, for best results, I would recommend a Linux server with a GPU as these provide a high hash rate, hence higher yields. If you are to go for CPU mining only, then you will need many servers, each contributing different mining power to achieve huge results.

The Mining Pool

Mining Monero or any other cryptocurrency individually requires a lot of processing power and time for you to earn a single dollar, and that's how a mining pool saves us. A mining pool is a combination of cryptocurrency miners who combine their computational power across a network in order to increase the chances of finding a block. When a block is found, the reward/share is then distributed to all of the miners that contributed to finding that block.
There are many mining pools, including NicehashMinergate, and more. Find more Monero mining pools here. However, I recommend going to popular pools to avoid crypto scams on the internet.
The Monero (XMR) wallet
A monero wallet is an account where our reward from the mining pool will be sent and stored safely before we sell or exchange it for cash or other cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin. In other words, it is our payment method. Many monero wallet providers exist, including Binance, Coinbase, Mymonero, and Prime XBT. you need to do is to copy your receiving monero address and paste it somewhere, because we will use it in our mining process.

Software for mining

This is the software that will help us with executing commands and managing our mining processes, and for the purpose of this tutorial, we shall use Xmrig. Xmrig mining software has both GUI and Linux versions with a 1% charge which is donated to its developers and we are going to mine monero with the Linux version since we are going to use a Linux server.

Configuring Xmrig

SSH into your Linux server as the root user using Putty or Mobaxterm for Windows, Juice SSH or Termius for Android, or any other SSH client of your choice.
Update and upgrade your server packages with the command below.

sudo apt update && pkg upgrade -y

Go to the official Xmrig website and click on the download button which takes you to the download page. On the Xmrig download page, select Linux since we are going to mine Monero on the Linux server. Select "Static, CPU only", but if your server has a GPU, then select "Generic". Kindly follow the screenshots below.

Xmrig Official page

We made a video describing all the following steps feel free to watch it by clicking Here

You might be prompted with "This software is a cryptocurrency miner, it can be flagged by your antivirus." click "I understand".

Since we are going to mine Monero on a Linux distribution, don't click "download". Just copy the command, paste it on your notepad, add "wget" and paste the result into your server console as seen below.

copy command

wget https://github.com/xmrig/xmrig/releases/download/v6.15.0/xmrig-6.15.0-linux-static-x64.tar.gz

Extract the Xmrig file from the compressed file with the command below.

tar xvzf xmrig-6.15.0-linux-static-x64.tar.gz

Change directory to Xmrig miner directory with the command below.

cd xmrig-6.15.0

Remove the "config.json" file by copying and pasting the command below.

rm config.json

Start Mining Monero

Now it is time to start mining our monero however, we need to first configure our miner, mining pool, and monero wallet.

Go to the Xmrig website and select Wizard, select "New configuration" then add pool select your preferred pool. am going to use xmrpool as an example.

Click on "Backends" and select "CPU". However, if your server has a GPU, then select "CUDA". Finally, click on "Misc" and donate the lowest value of 1%, click on "Results" and head straight to the command line and copy the command given into your server console. The final mining command is highlighted below.

./xmrig -o xmrpool.eu:9999 -u 44nsbPzUn5vTuH4jAA5h5Zd77ys7BB2SdYKoFsEkjqJmEmUwsUmk2wo5VXrQfzjCC1QYTrB98Ece4gZtUiiaFAPA7Wrgkd5 -k --tls
